What Is Qigong? A Beginner’s Guide to This Energetic Movement Practice.

Qigong (pronounced che-gong) is a Chinese practice that combines physical movements, breathing techniques, and meditation to improve physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. It promotes the flow of Qi (energy) throughout the body, which in turn helps to balance the body's natural energy systems. It is a simple and practical way of reducing stress, improving flexibility, balance, and strength, as well as promoting a sense of calm and inner peace. A regular practice of Qigong can also help to improve sleep, boost the immune system and increase mental clarity. The name Qigong is composed of two Chinese characters: "Qi" which means life energy or breath, and "Gong" which means work or practice. Together, the name Qigong means "energy work" or "energy cultivation.

In this intro class Steven will share a brief talk about what Qigong is, how it works and how it can be applied into the modern western daily routine. Then Steven will take everyone through a series of simple, basic and very effective Qigong postures. Followed by a short conscious connected breathwork exercise and then a Q&A at the end.

How to prepare:

- Wear comfortable clothing
- Bring a drink bottle with water
- Journal for insights (optional)
